1150am- Bob Firman Invitational- Elite Boys race

got up at like 730 and got some garbage hotel breakfast. we left around 815 over to eagle island and it took forever because of traffic. that sucked because i have been staying really hydrated so i dont like sitting in the car forever. it was foggy and 38 degrees around so coach had us sit in the car to stay warm. at 11 we went for a warmup. the weather started to clear up and be warmer. I took a gel and a tum and we went to the start.

Julien drew #46 so we were down at the end for the start. I started out really good though, out right behind the leaders. My first mile was good and fast. Carson caught me on the beach and I ran with him for a bit but I was already dying and lost him after the hill. a ton of guys passed me on the second lap. I tried to get moving but I was just slow. Julien passed me right along with everybody else. Mile 3 was trash I just tried to focus on keeping going. I hit the excel zone good but I was so slow up the hill the second time. Logan passed me with like 400 left. I finished hard but still just a bad race.

We all did pretty dang bad. we can bounce back. the important races are region and state though so I think its fine. the drive home sucked it hurt sitting for so long. my hamstring is really sore i'll have to take care of that

When you say your first mile was "good and fast ... right behind the leaders" and then your last mile is "trash"--do you see the correlation?

If you have the guts to trust yourself and run your first mile conservatively then you'll really be able to roar like a lion on your last mile.

What's better, to be 15th after one mile or 15th after 3 miles?

Just for fun check out these Roy Griak results. Look at what the boys paces were in their first mile vs. their overall pace. It's absolutely crazy.
