940- NXR Southwest- medium school open race

I have not done alot of race reports lately because of bad preformance issues. I was not racing with the varsity guys which was a bummer (second year in a row) but I hung out with them at the race and stuff. My fam came to watch nick so I came with them and raced in a open race. The day before I was pretty sick and feverish so I didnt get a very good sleep. I took some ibuprofen before though so I wasnt suffering during the race.

I didnt have good spikes to put in my shoes luckily they had free ones so that was good. I was feeling good and I ran the course backwards to warmup. Because I have not been running good lately I was really looking forward to running fast again. The race started and I got out fast (508 mile) which I havent been doing this year, but its more my style of racing and Ive been pretty succesful at it. I was hoping it would get me moving and get me back into racing fast. I slowed alot the second mile (10:45 or so).I wanted to be passing people but they ended up passing me. Any move I tried to make was short lived. I tried to not focus on anyone else in the race, just get into a quick rythm and stick with it but it wasnt really working out for me. Pretty much same pattern through mile 3 with an ok kick and I finished at 17:17.

Yep 9 seconds slower than last year. Its ok though, I dont feel like I was stressed or low confidence or anything else that I might blame my latest preformances on. Probably it was because I was sick (which later that day my fever and stuff was pretty bad and also on sunday). I got out of my spikes and cooled down by running around to watch the championship races and cheer my teamates. They did awesome but my favorite part was watching Casey Clinger break the course record. It was pretty cool and made me think how guys like that are always consistantly amazing and like whats the difference between being able to race good all the time and racing good on and off. Maybe its some pre race rituals idek. I cant wait for footlocker. That stuffs gona be epic.

More than anything else it is confidence. Of course they train like beasts, but no different than any other good runners (maybe just faster!). But it really is confidence. Their belief is so strong and built upon such a solid foundation of knowledge that there is no way they are not going to crush it.

You will get there - but it takes time and practice and that sure confidence that you can and will do it!
