2pm- UHSAA 3A State Championships

I blew it. I forgot to run with heart. It was a hard race but in the heat of the moment I forgot to do amazing. Really I think that is how we all ran. We warmed up and I was feeling ready to break the 3A freshman record. My start was good and I got in good position and after like the first mile we were together pretty good. The second mile is were I ruined it. It kind of fell apart but in the moment I wasnt thinking that it was just like keep pushing keep going faster. I was fighting the pain instead of embracing it. Paul was right with me and we were staying with each other but we should have gone for it. The rest of the race was pushing to the finish trying to pass some guys but to late to change my race around. Super hard and fast race but theres definitly a difference between that and running with passion and heart.

Dear Alex,

Let me take you on a trip down memory. I was once a cocky upstart freshman. I, like you, desperately wanted that record. I wanted it so badly I drove myself insane and I raced terribly. So badly, in fact, that the great Aimee Bryson beat me by a solid 5 seconds. Moral of the story: That record was set by a sophomore (trust me), and that time you ran ranks among the best freshman times out there. You keep pushing like you have and you'll be a force to be reckoned with in track.

Don't forget to let yourself have fun. I missed so much my freshman and sophomore years because I cared to much. Idk about you but I race cuz its oddly fun. If you lose the enjoyment in racing you're doing something wrong.

Best wishes, Eric Lambert
